Pro-D Day

On January 27th 2025 in School District #57 was a non-instructional day. Our class went to one of the workshops that the district was offering. We went to Carole Fullerton’s Connecting concepts: Hands-on Math Strategies for Effective Instruction, for the full day. There were three sessions, K-2, 3-5, and 6-9!

For me personally, this is the second Carole Fullerton workshop that I have done. the last time that I was in her sessions was earlier in the school year, during November’s Pro-D Day.

I personally found this informative and helpful! The way that I learnt math has changed, and the way that teach it has too. These sessions has helped to bridge the gap between what I have learned and the ways that we teach math. Carole went into detail of why we use certain materials (I am looking at you Base-ten Blocks). She explained why Base-Ten Blocks are not ideal to use represent to represent numbers because students will want to count the rods even though they always equal ten.
