On February 10th 2025, our Numeracy class help run a Numeracy Night at one of the Schools in Prince George. Having/Supporting these nights allows for Standard 4 to be presented. Standard 4 states that “Educators understand, respect and encourage the participation of families and communities in students learning and development.” As a Teacher Candidate it is so important that we see this happen and also take part in creating the involvement.
Our table is called Speedy cards. It is a math game that uses playing cards, and it is aimed towards students that are in Grade 6 or 7 but the game can be adapted for younger grades. what they do is draw 2 cards and quickly multiply the cards, the person answers with the correct answer wins the pair of cards. The Game could be change to focus on addition, subtraction, and integers.
This was a neat night! We were able to interact and talk with students and their families, but we were also able to talk to the teachers and be able to receive feedback from them. Our game can used as a warmup game for math class. Like I mentioned before, our game is aimed towards grade 6 and 7 students. We had a few teachers mentioned that they really like the game and they would use it in their classrooms.
